Last updated Feb 7, 2023

The flexibility of different accommodations on Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) is what makes this hike so unique. Every stage that you will be hiking has multiple options to help you plan for your budget.

TMB accommodations will vary at every stage and price points. Planning this trip is a complicated process in that they must be booked in advance. Booking will also dictate the direction and dates of the hike. Whatever accommodation is considered, know the positives and negatives of each.

Scroll to the bottom of the post for the map of all the accommodations.

General Accommodation Experience

You may need to be flexible with your hiking dates. For example, we really did not plan to spend two days in Courmayeur during our hike but ended up doing so because our next accommodation at Refugio Bonatti didn’t have an available private room earlier. Instead of waiting in Courmayeur for two days, we could have stayed at Chalet Val Ferret which would have been a better option for our next hiking stage, but in our limited research, we missed this accommodation completely. We decided in June to do TMB in September, so we missed some things.

However, staying two days in Courmayeur turned out to be a great thing as it rained the entire time and visibility was very limited. By the time we were back on the trail, the weather cleared up. Pure luck!

The prices I am using in this post are the prices that we either paid or would have paid if we stayed at these hotels/refuges/campsites in September of 2021. When it comes to breakfast and dinner (half-board) I will identify what is included in the price of the room and what would be the additional cost at each accommodation.

Keep in mind that breakfast is usually considerably basic: cereal, yogurt, cold cut meats and cheese, bread, spreads, boiled eggs, and juices/tea/coffee. The dinners most of the time are not included in the price of the room at the hotels and some hotels do not have restaurants to offer dinner. Others that do may just have a fixed menu for that evening which most tired hikers prefer, or a limited menu to choose from. Preset dinner menus usually include a starter (usually vegetarian soup), the main course with salad, cheese, and dessert.

All refuges include half-board (breakfast and dinner). You need to let them know ahead of time if you have any dietary restrictions. Otherwise, everyone is served the same meal.

Accommodations in Chamonix

HELIOPIC HOTEL & SPA

This is the hotel we stayed at. It was conveniently located to the train & bus stop, right next to the cable car to Aiguille du Midi, and a short walk to cable car Brevent. We requested a room with a balcony and a view of Mont Blanc, which was absolutely stunning. We were in awe every morning and every night. The rooms were clean, and bathrooms had a heated drying rack which came in handy since we got soaked the first day there.

The breakfast is included in the room price and is one of the best breakfast buffets we have had on the trip. A lot more options than most other places. The hotel has a restaurant if interested in dinner at the premises, reservations are required.

We were also able to leave our luggage here to be safely stored while we were on TMB.
