This delicious and incredibly easy recipe was shared with me by my dear friend from Palestine. From day one we have absolutely loved it and secretly call it “Majdi Dish”.
It is simple to make on the weeknight, but very flavorful and completely different than any other chicken dish you’ve ever tried. It is perfect for when you are looking for something different.

For the Meat
2 chicken breast
1 medium onion, diced
1 tsp. Allspice
4 cups of water
For the Sauce
2 cups Plain Greek Yogurt
2 garlic cloves, minced
The Rest of The Ingredients
2 cup Basmati Rice, cooked
1 package of Pita Bread
1/4 Slivered Almonds
Step 1: Bring 4 cups of water in the medium saucepot to boil. Once boiling add chicken breast, salt, allspice, and diced onion. Let it boil on medium for 20 minutes. At the same time start cooking the rice.
Step 2: While the chicken is cooking, use a small skillet and fry the pita bread in some oil until golden brown. After it cools off, break the pita bread into bite-size pieces and set it aside.
Step 3: Once you are done frying the pita bread, use the same skillet to brown the slivered almonds. Set them aside.
Step 4: By this time the chicken should be done, take it out of the broth and shred it into small pieces. Save the broth and set the chicken aside.
Step 5: Combine all the sauce ingredients together and mix together for about 2 minutes, until a nice smooth mixture. Then add 1/4 cup of chicken broth and mix together again.
Step 6: Time to assemble all the ingredients in the casserole type of dish. The first layer is the pita bread. After you assemble the pita layer use a couple of spoonfuls of chicken broth on top of the pita bread to add a little bit of moisture.
Step 7: Add shredded chicken, and then top the chicken with the yogurt sauce.
Step 8: The next layer is rice, spread it evenly over everything then add more chicken broth over the rice evenly. Garnish with almonds and serve immediately.
